[1] [2] It was directed by George Stevens and produced by Pandro S. in 19th-century England, the film stars Katharine Hepburn and Franchot Tone. Joan Fontaine makes one of her early (uncredited) film appearances. The screenplay was by Allan Scott, Mortimer Offner, and Jack Townley, based on the play Quality Street. An old printed image (the earliest known) of J M Barrie's birthplace and home at 9 Brechin Road in the weaving town of Kirriemuir (his fictional Thrums), Forfarshire, Scotland - Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet (), was a writer, dramatist and story teller who is best known for his novel of Peter Pan, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up.
